Hotel Nonno classic – Mie

My adventure over the snowy weekend took me to a new prefecture on my list, Mie. Located in between the capital of Tsu and the second largest city of Matsusaka Hotel Nonno can be found. For those coming via car this hotel will be no challenge to locate however if you are coming via foot and public transport this hotel is not in a fun location. There is a bus from Tsu that can be caught to soften the blow and reducing the walk down to about 12 minutes. However, I was coming up via the south and ended up between two stations both showing around a 25-minute walk. Thankfully the hotel has a live tracker on rooms, I do believe if I had walked all that and found no availability I would have probably cried. The location gets a 3 the surrounding area has nothing to really offer and the check in at the hotel was late.

Nonno offers modern large rooms with a focus on luxury this was certainly the largest room I stayed in over my five-day trip. There is not amenities bar however the room comes with a good selection of freebies and anything specific can be ordered via the tv to the room. The room may have been the largest I stayed in but sadly it had the smallest bath by far. For amenities I award a 7 for a total of 10.

The room was very clean, but it felt dated despite the hotel pushing a vibe of luxury. Every room was apparently equipped with a PS3 however after investigating I only found very old games that were clearly being run on an emulator. There was also a mystery charge the following morning on the bill that could have come from playing Tetris. Keep this in mind should you try to entertain yourself with the games. But for comfort and cleanliness I give an 8 the highest scored category for this hotel.

The hotel has a live tracker meaning you can check how many rooms are free to decide if the drive is worth it. The hotel has an electronic check in board which offers three images of the rooms. These images were difficult to really get a vibe of the room and its perks, none of the baths were in shot and after seeing the size of mine I now understand why. This hotel has plenty of space to offer guests but very little to fill that space with. For ease of access, I award a 7 taking the new total to 25.

For food the menu was limited and didn’t have too much that grabbed my attention. In the end I ordered the chocolate ice cream to accompany my night of playing knock of Tetris. The ice cream was nice so for the score of food I will give a 6, the menu is very limited.

Overall, the room was big, the bed comfy and the knock of Tetris an interesting twist even if it did lead me to wanting better games. Perhaps I am being overly generous, but I will award a 7 for this category for a score of 38.

Finally. for rebooking I fear I am again being overly generous with a score of 4 leading to a total of 42/70. The score certainly puts the hotel in the lower brackets of the rankings. For me this hotel would have been worth the long walk if it had a larger bath, entertainment that wasn’t secretly charged additionally, had a more varied menu or even just had a little more in the room. The room I had came with a nice hanging chair and soft, but asides sitting in various places and debating if movies would also result in more fees there wasn’t much on offer from the room which ended up costing nearly 16,000 yen.
