Hotel Chant, Osaka
Located on the outskirts of Osaka, Hotel Chant sits by a river along a main road that will eventually reach the airport. The thought behind booking this hotel was to be in a better position to hit the airport bright and early for the flight to Hong Kong. The location can be reached via bus and is a ten-minute walk from the bus stop. It is about a 25-minute taxi ride to the airport, so it scores a 7 for convenience for early morning flights.
The hotel can be booked via booking.com, and they have the usual touch-screen check-in for guests arriving on the day. It was one of the better-rated hotels near the airport, and it did allow me to see the lowest-rated in the area out of curiosity. I have never seen what booking.com classes as a 1 rating, but now I have. For ease of access, I will award an 8, taking the score to 13.
The hotel itself offers the usual baths, large beds, karaoke in rooms, and large TVs. There is a small amenities section offering goods that can be taken into rooms on top of the freebies on offer. For amenities, the hotel scores 7 for a total of 20. Chant's rooms were smaller than usual, but they made the most of the space available to them, and they are still larger than any business hotel would offer. The rooms were not overly modern, but they were clean. I do not recall much that stood out in the sea of love hotels over Obon from this hotel, but there was certainly nothing that detracted. For cleanliness, I will award another 7, taking the score to 27.
Food is often the area I cannot rate, and for this hotel, I had to be up very early, and I arrived after eating a big meal. So, the usual score of 5 will be applied for a new total of 32.
My overall enjoyment of the hotel is probably another 7. The hotel offered a good bath and powerful shower, so I left as always feeling squeaky clean. The bed was comfortable, but other than that, nothing really stood out. The new total is 39.
The last section is likely to rebook, which is a tough one. If I stay in Osaka again, I will most likely book a more central hotel as there are a lot centred around the canal. However, if the need for a very early hotel arose, this hotel would probably be useful, so I would say a 6 for rebooking is fair. Meaning the final score is 45.
