Nagasaki wild area Pokémon Go.

After my busy weekend in Saga, it was the turn of Nagasaki to host an international weekend. Pokémon Go wild area took place the first weekend of November and the city filled with trainers from all around the globe looking to catch, trade, raid and explore. The city hosted stamp rallies, routes to follow and places to trade with others for any Pokémon that were missing. This was my first wild area that I attended in person, and I was excited to land new entries into my poke Dex, enjoy in person bonuses, and take part in the debut of Grimsnarl who was available in raids.

The city bustled the whole weekend and in game the screen was covered in lured stops which never seemed to end. Paintings of Pokémon appeared all around the city and many local businesses incorporated the prefectures mascot or Pikachu into their products. Character meet and greets took places around the city and I was lucky to catch Pikachu’s own private tram which he was riding around in on Sunday. There were inflatable Pokémon to snap pictures off and Rayquaza made an appearance for a dragon dance, a style which is traditionally seen in the China town area for big calendar events. It was fun to see so many people from around the globe and see people coming together to trade and explore Nagasaki.

The event ran throughout the day, and raids continued into the night, I ended up walking about 35kms in two days and by the end my legs were begging for a break. I was fortunate to find trainers who could trade me two missing entries in my Dex, one of which I had been after since its debut. Pachirisu the cute electric squirrel is a regional meaning my chances of getting one were impossible without a flight or special event. But I now have two and one even went lucky making it more special. Pokémon with backgrounds of Nagasaki were something to keep an eye out for and merch was available to buy around the city.

The in-game bonuses were fun, and the shifting hours kept things fresh. The weather for the weekend was perfect for walking around although a tad cold in the mornings. Kyushu’s temperatures are finally falling to match the season of autumn. The weekend was fun and a great chance of pace for gameplay which had felt empty after the Halloween event ended. I hope I can attend another in person event one day hopefully in a new country so I can explore and catch more unique Pokémon.
