Kagawa review- Coastal paradise
Following my review of Shikoku, I now move to my exploration of Kagawa. Kagawa is located in the northeast of Shikoku and is accessible via bridges from the mainland, making it the easiest of the four prefectures which make up Shikoku to reach. It is also the new home of Shikoku’s first Pokémon centre. Kagawa has plenty to offer tourists, including a beautiful aquarium and stunning, photographic beaches that are best visited at just the right time to capture perfect mirror images. It features a lovely coastline and a train line running alongside it.
There is again a vast, beautiful coastline to explore, with many beaches and coves to explore. I had the enjoyable opportunity to experience a DIY beach BBQ here; all you had to do was pay and order online, then show up, and your goodies would be waiting for you to do the rest. It was very relaxing and peaceful compared to my first BBQ experience. There were other groups also having a BBQ who were kind enough to help nudge our BBQ along with their nifty tool. The night was very memorable, and the cheering and low-key support of our progress was fun.
The aquarium was fun for half a day; it’s small and only has two floors, but there are many things to see and a fun photo spot outside. The weather was great during my visit, making the blue seas and skies pop even more in my pictures. Kagawa’s city is large and offers lots of transport choices. The city also offers ferries to nearby islands, which can make for very fun day trips. The island of Naoshima is the island I visited, famous for its art installations, such as the famous red and black spotted pumpkin!
From Kagawa, ferries can be caught to nearby Osaka or Hiroshima, depending on your time. There are many places to eat local food, and the climate is sub-tropical, so you will see the odd palm tree. I plan to revisit Kagawa when the Pokémon centre opens, so I will revisit in a later blog. But my first experience of this prefecture was overly positive, and it is a prefecture with a lot to offer! Worth exploring if you have time or want a fun day trip from Osaka.
