Kagawa F-beach review
Kagawa prefecture boasts an impressive coastline that stretches for miles, offering up some beautiful beaches and photo opportunities. Located in Takuma, an amazing opportunity was found by my travel companion, which was too good to pass up! A chance to enjoy Kagawa’s coast and a chance to enjoy olive wagyu, one of Kagawa’s local offerings.
At F Beach, guests can stroll in empty-handed, pick out their dream BBQ course, and become their own grill master. The whole process is contactless: you arrive to find a fridge stocked with treats and all the BBQ gear ready to go. As a wagyu enthusiast, I could not resist sampling the local beef. Our first solo BBQ was a wild ride, and I knew I had to return for a rematch with the BBQ gods.
The location was a little far from the nearest station, but a ten-minute taxi ride, so we took the opportunity to grab some extras from the supermarket. We were armed with salt! More local wagyu, chicken wings, mushrooms, garlic, and some potatoes! The BBQ course provided gave us a selection of wagyu, sausages, onions, pepper, rice balls…so many rice balls for just two people! The course itself is a good amount of food, but we wanted to really get the most from the chance. The idea was to create fried garlic, baked potato, garlic butter mushrooms, and a side of chicken wings! There was so much amazing food, and this experience will stay with me!
On arrival, everything we needed was inside a fridge, and a box of BBQ equipment was on top. Everything we needed was provided, bar a knife, which meant we had to get creative when cutting vegetables and spreading butter. Those who just order the provided set do not need to worry about this, as the meat is provided in manageable chunks. The wind was strong, but the BBQ provided had a lid, so it was easier to protect it, unlike the first BBQ experience on Bunny Island. There was another group already set up, and we got lucky that once our fire had started to take, they let us borrow their nifty tool to help the fire spread faster! They were very kind, and I am thankful for the assistance.
A guide was provided for starting the fire, and I am happy to say my second fire attempt was much more successful. The fire spread nicely, and it was very even. Very soon, we were cooking to the point that some things were cooking too fast! But all in all, the food that night was amazing, and I really enjoyed the ocean breeze and hearing the waves crashing onto the beach. There is a curfew at 9pm when the owners come and close. They also deal with the hot ashes that are left over, which I was thankful for. Guests must ensure they separate their trash and dispose of everything.
If you are heading to Kagawa and love BBQs and the beach, I cannot recommend this experience enough. It was one of those rare adventures that lingers in your mind, making you crave more, even another glamping trip. These are the moments that make the JET program unforgettable: stepping outside your comfort zone and discovering new joys. Back in the UK, camping and BBQs were mostly my parents’ thing, and it never felt like this. Here, everything felt special, with the beautiful surroundings amplifying the magic. There was a sense of calm, as if time itself had slowed, even as we kept an eye on the curfew.
I will fondly remember this night, succeeding in cooking an amazing meal and laughing carefree over the fallen letters which spelled F Beach now spelt something much more humorous. The wind that night was strong and a worthy opponent whilst trying to get the fire started. The fallen letters now spell something more humorous, ending the night with laughter that I wish could have lasted forever.
F beaches concept works perfectly in Kagawa, and there are many other similar companies in Japan offering the same experience. If not in Kagawa, it may be worth checking around your itinerary to see if you can enjoy this experience too!
