Hotel Yume, Kagawa review
Located in Takamatsu in Kagawa, Hotel Yume can be found in a cluster of love hotels. Love hotels line an entire street by the river vying for customers, all promising a relaxing romantic time with a river view. I arrived in Takamatsu with plans to catch a ferry to Naoshima the next day to explore its art installations. When I did my research, I took note of the area and decided that arriving on the day was a safe decision as there was so much choice. When I arrived however, because it was a long weekend, national holiday prices were higher than usual and check in times for stays were later.
This put me in a pinch, my feet were hurting and there was nothing within walking distance to do until check in at 9 pm. I had eaten a good meal and wanted nothing more than to relax and have a bath. After checking out every single love hotel and viewing all my options. One hotel caught my attention: Hotel Yume.
Hotel Yume is a drive in style love hotel, there is a board with all the available rooms and rates which glows if a room is available. One room captured my eye and there was still some time till check in opened. Yume has three rooms specifically which have been renovated and are new. The one that captured my attention was a modern looking room with a high-end apartment vibe.
Whilst deciding how to pass an hour and after scooting out of the way of other guests arriving by car the kind owner noticed and asked if we needed help. English was limited but through the help of translate and a basic understanding of Japanese, I was thanking the love hotel gods for my decision to stay here. The room I wanted was mine and after some secret amazing service the owner was kind enough to waver the extension fee.
Location wise the love hotel area is around a twenty-minute bus ride from the bustling heart of Takamatsu. A bus can be caught to go straight to the ferry making it convenient. There is a convenience store around the corner and a supermarket close by too. For location I award a 6.
For ease of access hotel Yume can be booked online. For those arriving by car you simply drive in, find a room that suits your fancy and budget, drive in, and the room is yours. For me the kindness of the owner really impressed me, he was very kind and even with a language barrier he offered us a chance to rest in the room for some time. For this I will award ease of access an 8 taking the total to 14.
The room was new and very clean. It did not feel like a hotel but a fancy apartment with a decent amount of space. The bedroom had a big tv which can be used to order food. There are beautiful LEDs all over and the room has a solid wood floor that lends to the vibe. Entry is up a staircase where you are greeted by a glittering flower wall behind glass. The LEDS here create a sparkling effect, I was very happy to have chosen this room. There is a very large bath with shower, and the bath has jets. You can tell the room is newly refurbished, the room was very clean! For comfort and cleanliness, I award another 8 taking the total to 22.
For amenities there is no amenity bar like in many chains, but there is the usual collection of freebies. There is a microwave and tea making equipment on offer. All love hotels are designed around the come empty handed concept so you should always expect the basic freebies. The toothbrush provided by Yume was very pretty and the collection of beauty products on offer was nice. For amenities I award a 7 for a total of 29.
For food by the time, I arrived I was full and my plans to catch a ferry required me to leave early. There is a limited menu on offer via the tv, but I would advise guest to eat beforehand as it is very limited. Most love hotels operate on skeleton crew so often food is not the strong point or even really expected from them. Which is why the ones which do have a chef or offer a wide menu are rare and why this category exists. As is the norm if I could not eat the food a score of 5 will be award to keep scores fair. The new score is 34.
I really enjoyed my time in the room, the bath was relaxing, the bubble bath and salts provided smelt great. The microwave helped make Choco pies tastier and the bed was very comfy. So, for overall enjoyment I award an 8 for a score of 42.
The final score is for likelihood to return and if I return to Kagawa to explore the new Pokémon centre I will consider staying at hotel Yume again. Check it out if you are in the area! I award a 7 for a final score of 49/70.
