Hotel Kalhn – Tokyo

Located in the heart of bustling Tokyo, Hotel Kalhn is nestled in a cluster of Love hotels, all offering different rates and bonuses. The hotel is close to several bus stops and train lines, making it conveniently located for those wanting to explore the metropolis. For location, I award a 7. From here, you can reach several train lines and all the main wards of Tokyo.

For ease of access, many Tokyo hotels cannot be booked online; they require guests to call or simply walk in on the night. Hotel Kalhn was one of a handful that can be booked via Couples.JP. When I arrived, there was no check-in board, meaning guests will need to talk to the front desk, which can be scary if your Japanese is not strong. I award a 6 for a total of 13. This hotel is not easy to access, but if you have some knowledge of Japanese, it is manageable.

For amenities, the hotel is small, which is the standard for Tokyo; there was no amenities bar in the lobby. The lobby is actually very small; this hotel feels cramped, and the elevators are some of the smallest I have encountered in Japan. The room booked was the top-tier room, and the usual freebies were available for the usual Love Hotel ethos of coming empty-handed. The room was very small, but the decoration was comfortable and had a modern vibe. The room was on the top floor, and there was construction going on; the room was the only one on the top floor. The hotel itself didn’t feel overly welcoming. For amenities, I give a 4 for a total of 17.

For comfort and cleanliness, the hotel was clean, but with the construction and the smallness of everything, I couldn’t relax. The hotel is cheap for the usual Tokyo price, and the room is nice; the space is as expected for the capital. Things were clean, but the room had signs of wear. For this is award a 6 for a total of 23. I was unable to try the hotel food as I arrived late, but the menu was small. As always, a score of 5 will be awarded for a new total of 28.

For overall enjoyment, I award a 6. The room was ok the shower had good pressure the bed was comfy. The bath was tiny. And the space was used as best as it could be. But I didn’t feel overly relaxed. The bath was very small and like my cube bath in my apartment. I award a 4 for a new total of 38.

The last category is likely to return; Tokyo being so vast is a hard one to rate for this. There are so many options, and many are not on booking sites. The ones which are are very pricey, as I have said in a few Tokyo blogs I have seen hotel rooms go for 120,000 yen a night, which is half a month’s wage for some people. This hotel is in a great location, and it offers a cheap rate, which is rare for the area. Even the other hotels in the cluster had price walk-in rates. If I ever return to Tokyo, I am unlikely to rebook this hotel. There are just too many choices elsewhere that will offer more. The hotel is fine in a pinch, but nothing stood out overall for me. If you are only coming for a rare visit from abroad, this is not the hotel I would choose.
