Hotel Jupiter - Okayama love hotel review

Located south of Okayama city Hotel Jupiter is within a small cluster of Love Hotels which neighbour the river. I initially set out for a different hotel in the area but soon found there was no rooms available. After checking the other options Hotel Jupiter seemed appealing. Another drive in style hotel this hotel offers a light system to see if a room is available or not. There is a picture of the main room in front of each option, but the website itself refused to load. So, it did feel like blind luck. Only seeing the bed gives a rough idea on vibe but it tells you nothing about the bath or rest of the room. This hotel ended up being a surprise.

The first category is location and for this I am giving it a 6 as the location is only accessible via car, taxi, or an infrequent bus. You are a fair distance from the city centre, but the location does benefit from this with the area being quiet. The walk from the bus stop to the hotel however was a long one in the dark that passed industrial buildings. The nearest convenience store is back towards the bus stop and the walk itself was around ten minutes.

For ease of access had the website worked I would have awarded higher however the website when it loads is very hard to navigate and not very user friendly. The rooms also having just an image made it hard to judge what each room would be like. But the ability to walk in is always nice so for this I award a 7 taking the total to 13.

The first thing that greeted me was the smell of drains. This is the biggest negative for this room however the room itself was unexpected. The walkway into the room was a glass floor with beautiful orange flowers underneath. The lighting was nice, and the colour scheme was centred around the colour orange. The furniture was orange, and everything matched very nicely. I was impressed by whoever furnished and came up with the room concept. It had a retro vibe to it, but it didn’t feel old. There was a leather sofa, big tv, huge bath despite the smell, massage chair, and the usual freebies that you can expect in a love hotel. For comfort and cleanliness, I award a 7 bringing the total to 20 however had the drains not been an issue the hotel would have scored higher. The smell vanished briefly after a bath and spraying deodorant however by morning it was back and provided a rude awakening.

For amenities the hotel had everything you needed to arrive empty handed and enjoy some spa products. The bath was great, and the hotel provided cute dressing gowns which I honestly was sad they were not selling. They were bright purple and pink with a kimono style lining. There is no amenities bar, and the food options are very limited and pricey. So, for this section I am awarding a 6 bring the score to 26.

For food I am awarding a 5 as I didn’t get a chance to enjoy it due to very late check in on a national holiday and the fact the food was limited and didn’t really appeal. So, for this the score is now 31.

My overall enjoyment of this hotel is a 7 bringing the total to 37. I was impressed with the room and had it not been for the smell the room would have scored a lot higher. The bed was comfy, and the decoration was very nicely thought out. For likelihood of returning, it’s a 6 for a final score of 43/70. The location was out of the way, and the website did the hotel no favours. The rooms drain issue was unmissable and I hope it can be fixed for future guests as the room itself was nice. Okayama has many hotels to offer so if I return to see the dark zone a different hotel will be chosen. But it you are in the area and need a place to stay late at night and other places are booked this option is not a bad call.
